MASTER BLEND – Multi-Purpose Baking Mix
Southern Fried Chicken
Prep Time: 25-40 minutes
Cooking Time: varies by method
Servings: 4-5
Dry Ingredients
- 1 whole Chicken (3 pounds), cut into pieces. We suggest tenders or breasts, 6-10 pieces.
- 2 cups Master Blend – Multi-Purpose Baking Mix
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne powder (opt.)
Wet Ingredients
- Oil for fryng
Directions
Mix flour blend and spices together. In a separate bowl lightly coat chicken with oil or milk.
Deep Fry Method
Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees. Gently place chicken pieces into the hot oil, and fry until chicken is cooked through and golden brown, 8-10 minutes (breasts and wings) or 13 to 15 minutes (thighs and drumsticks). Drain the fried chicken on paper towels.
Pan Fry Method
Place coated chicken on a platter and allow to sit until it becomes doughy (this is critical to ensure crispiness when fried). Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat; be sure to use enough oil to cover chicken pieces. Once chicken is doughy, test oil by dropping a piece of the wet dough into the oil. It is ready when it starts to fry immediately. Fry chicken pieces in oil for about 7 to 10 minutes each, or until cooked through and juices run clear. Drain on paper towels and serve.
Oven Fry Method
Place coated chicken pieces on a greased cookie sheet or baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Should be golden brown and crisp.
